Stereotypical males in action films:

Men in action/adventure films are seen as strong, powerful, eye candy, and being very muscular.

Task 1 - Research a male film star who often appeared in action/adventure films

Arnold Schwarzenegger - Arnold Schwarzenegger is best known for his main role in the terminator (1984) where he is seen as a strong, masculine alpha male.

Adjectives to describe the film poster:

- Butch Colours (black, red)

- Powerful/Strong

- Confident (looking into the distance, no eye contact with camera)

- Muscular (Exposed sweaty chest)

- Background is very futuristic (possible red lasers)

Target Audience/film description:

I would say that the target audience for 'The Terminator' would most likely be towards boys/men. However, this film could also appeal to girls if they like action films or they just find Arnold Schwarzenegger attractive. In the first terminator film, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a ruthless cyborg who tries to kill the child of his enemy Sarah Connor. But in the sequels, the terminator becomes a hero as he joins forces with Sarah Connor and starts to protect her from other cyborgs who are also trying to kill her.

Stereotypical females in action films

In earlier times, females in action/adventure films were usually viewed as weak and emotional damsels in distress who were only in the film to improve the male's heroic reputation. In modern times, that idea of damsel in distress has completely changed as lead female roles in action films has increased. (Kill Bill, Tomb Raider, Hunger Games)

Task 2 - Research a female film star who often appeared in action/adventure films.

Angelina Jolie - Angelina Jolie in action films was best known for playing Lara Croft AKA the 'Tomb Raider' (2001) where she was portrayed as a confident and sassy femme fatale

Adjectives to describe the film poster:

- Slightly more feminine colour

- Expresses confidence

- People might find it sexy

- Independent woman

- Strong/powerful

- Her tight clothes show her figure

- The gun and belt shows a bit of masculininty

Target Audience/ film description:

I would say that the target audience for Tomb Raider would have to be for females due to the fact that the film empowers women and makes them feel powerful. However, this film could also be for boys/men because it's an action film and for them, it has a sexy and attractive woman as the lead role.

In the tomb raider films, Lara Croft's character/personality is nowhere near the stereotypical 'damsel in distress'. She is a strong, care free, and independent female figure. This caused her to become inspirational to young girls watching as she proved that you don't need a man in your life to feel powerful.

Task 3 - create your own heroine

The heroine that I have created is James Bond's cousin: Laura Bond.

words to describe Laura would be clever, sultry, classy. More information about her is in the first picture

(These are some alternative pictures of Laura Bond that I made on my PS4)
