Film Promotion Blog 7 - Typography & Font Analysis

Activity 1 :

The film poster that I have chosen to analyse, is "Don't Breathe" (2016)

Colour :

The main colours in the film poster are Black (the background), Red (Important dates and information), & White (the film title). However, the colour that stands out the most in the poster is the mix of Yellow, Orange, Baby Blue, & Pink. I think the possible reason for this is to highlight innocence, as those types of colours are quite childish, unlike the other colours which suggest death and fear.

Size :

The size for the film poster is quite big. I think the reason why this is, is to catch the audience's attention.

Placement :

A woman is placed right in the centre of the poster with her hands covering her mouth, with her face looking horrified into the distance. I think the reason why the woman is doing that pose is to show her extreme fear from what she is witnessing. In addition, the reason why she is being used on the film poster is supposed to show how she is the main character.

Style :

I guess you could say that the style of the film poster is kind of old fashioned, almost like a 80's thriller film.

Extra Info :

It mentions the directors of the film by saying "From the twisted minds of Evil Dead". This lets the audience know that the film is going to be scary and not appropriate for kids.

The film's release date was August 26th 2016

The slogan for the film poster says "The best American horror film in twenty years". This highlights how successful the film was.

This is the type of font that I want to use for my own film poster

Why have you chosen this? :

I chose The Exorcist logo because I think it will be the right font to use for my film

What colour will it be? :

The colour of the font will be white

What size will it be? :

I want the size of my film title to be quite small but still noticeable

Where will it be placed? :

I want my film poster to be right in the centre, but depending on the photo, it might change.

What will the film title say? :

I have decided that the title for my film poster will be "The Femme Fatale" (French for Dangerous Woman). With the slogan being "Danger disguised by Beauty"
